World No. 3 Anders Antonsen has withdrawn from next week’s Super 500 tournament, the Japan Masters, after retiring from his HYLO Open semifinal match last Saturday—near the end of the contest—due to a minor injury.

Antonsen explains to TV 2 Sport that this decision is simply to prioritize his training following a tournament schedule over the past four weeks, during which he competed in Finland, Denmark, France and most recently Germany, where he reached the semi-final.

This offers Antonsen a two-week break from competition before the Super 500 event, the Hong Kong Open. Antonsen expects to line up in Hong Kong in order to secure the final points needed to definitively secure his spot for the season finale, which will take place in China from 8-13 December.

Antonsen is currently in second place in the qualification rankings for the season finale, which will feature the top eight players (with World Champion Alex Lanier already guaranteed a spot). Antonsen has 77,930 points, and simply stepping onto the court in Hong Kong would bring his total to 80,150 points.
