Danish badminton player Anders Antonsen failed to reach the final at the Super 500 badminton tournament, the Hylo Open, in Germany. Following a lackluster performance—in which he had lost the first set and was trailing in the second—Antonsen retired from the match due to what appeared to be a back injury. He had lost the first set 18–21 and was down 13–16 in the second.

Christie thereby advanced to Sunday’s final against India’s Lakshya Sen.

Jonatan Christie is usually a very aggressive player who loves to smash the shuttlecock whenever the opportunity arises.

However, he displayed an uncharacteristic level of patience and composure in the first set—even though Antonsen was playing on the advantageous side, facing into the wind.

This seemed to unsettle the Dane, who committed several errors and found himself constantly trailing on the scoreboard. While Antonsen didn't appear physically hindered, he seemed to be playing at less than full intensity.

Christie managed to drag Antonsen into a slow, measured pace and whenever an opening appeared, the Indonesian seized it.

Antonsen managed to save two of the four set points by playing aggressively, but his surge came too late.

He started the second set better and things looked promising at 12–9 in the Dane’s favor, but from that point on, Antonsen’s movements became increasingly stiff and sluggish.

A 13–10 lead turned into a 13–16 deficit, before Antonsen approached the net to concede the match.
