Defending champion Anders Antonsen crashed out of the French Open badminton tournament already in the first round as he suffered a shocking defeat against Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long 21-19, 21-19

Anders Antonsen made it all the way to the final at the Denmark Open last week, but it seems he may have exhausted all his energy in Odense.

In any case, he was knocked out in the first round of the French Open on Wednesday evening.

The Dane appeared drained of energy and spent some of his remaining strength arguing with the umpire.

This was one of the reasons he lost 18-21, 19-21 to Ng Ka Long from Hong Kong.

Anders Antonsen had a firm grip on his opponent early in the match. He played patiently, controlled the front court, and built up a lead.

But then he began to falter. He squandered his lead on several occasions, and when Ng Ka Long took a 16-14 lead after winning six consecutive points, things started to look worrying for Antonsen.

The Dane let frustration get the better of him, perhaps spending too much energy talking to and gesturing at both the umpire and his opponent.

The player from Hong Kong capitalized on the Dane’s lack of focus and won the first set.

In the second set, Anders Antonsen played with more consistency, but he couldn't find a way to overcome Ng Ka Long. And, just as in the first set, his frustration was clearly visible.

This time, he even received a warning from the umpire following a verbal and physical outburst on the court; the player from Aarhus looked as though he would rather be anywhere but Paris.

Ng Ka Long took advantage of this and eliminated the world No. 2.
