PSG proved strong for Aalborg as the Danes were put to the sword in Paris on Wednesday evening as Stefan Madsen's team won 32-25 in a match that determined who would win Group B in the Champions League.

Aalborg Handball did not succeed in going through the preliminary group stage of the Champions League undefeated. In the final round Aalborg suffered their first defeat as the French powerhouse won 32–25.

Both teams had already secured advancement to the intermediate round, but the defeat is nonetheless significant for the North Jutland side as points earned against the other advancing team are carried over into the intermediate round.

Consequently, Aalborg starts with the single point secured from their draw against PSG in Aalborg, while the Parisians carry over three points.

After an evenly matched start, the French side began to pull away toward the end of the first half. One key factor was the French team's Danish goalkeeper, Mikkel Lovkvist, who delivered an outstanding performance between the posts.

Aalborg also struggled with too many unforced errors in their attack, and by halftime, the Danish champions trailed 11–15.

Niklas Landin replaced Fabian Norsten in goal, and the veteran goalkeeper got off to a strong start, making several saves. When Patrick Wiesmach narrowed the gap to 15–17, Aalborg prompted PSG coach Stefan Madsen to call a timeout to get his team back on track.

The move was entirely successful; the Aalborg players began turning the ball over again and missing clear-cut scoring chances. Suddenly, PSG led 22–16, and only a total collapse by the French side could bring the Danes back into the match.

That collapse never arrived and Aalborg can now instead look forward to the main round, which begins on 18 November. In this round, Aalborg and PSG are in a group alongside Veszprém from Hungary, Wisła Płock from Poland, and German clubs Melsungen and Fuchse Berlin.
