The race for the Danish title could be over for FC Copenhagen even before we get to the Championship playoffs in the Danish Superliga should they fail to get any points out of tonight's crucial away clash against FC Midtjylland.

It is the Danish champions of the past four years who clash in Herning this afternoon. FC Midtjylland has clinched one of four possible titles, while FC Copenhagen have claimed the other three.

However, at the restart of the Danish Superliga, FC Copenhagen head into the last four rounds of the regular season in a shocking fifth spot with a whopping 12-point gap to league leaders AGF.

FC Midtjylland are four points adrift of bitter rivals AGF, and the Wolves have warmed up for the restart of the Danish domestic season with two Europa League matches, in which they qualified directly for the round of 16.

FC Midtjylland prepare for the vital encounter handicapped by the absence of leading goalscorer Franculino, who is ruled out for an extensive period through injury, and the question is whether former Brondby striker Mikael Uhre, who has been signed from Philadelphia Union in the transfer window, can fill the void left by the striker from Guinea-Bissau.

FC Midtjylland are still looking frightening up front with players like Aral Simsir, Dario Osorio, Cho Gue-sung, and Junior Brumado, even though Mikel Gogorza is nursing an injury and Phillip Billing is ruled out through suspension.

There are a lot of questions regarding FC Copenhagen's current level. The two games in the Champions League showed a squad willing to work hard with their backs against the wall, and they boosted their morale in both games against Napoli and Barcelona, even though they only came away with one point.

But in the Danish Superliga, they must be on the front foot with an enormous gap to bridge. There is no question that there is plenty of quality in the squad, but can coach Jacob Neestrup find the right formation?

The purchases of Aurélio Buta and Costa Rican international Kenay Myrie covered the gap left by the long-term injury to Rodrigo Huescas, and while there are high expectations for Amir Richarlison, the reigning champions still seem short of options with Magnus Mattson out injured and Victor Froholdt and Lukas Lerager having left the club.

The last two matches in the Parken Stadium ended in a draw last year, while FC Midtjylland won both their clashes in Herning. Today's match in Herning starts at 16.00 CET
