The Boston Bruins remain dominant at home by surviving the Vegas Golden Knights while the Detroit Red Wings upset the division rival Florida Panthers with five goals.

Boston Bruins 3-2 Vegas Golden Knights

The Boston Bruins (11-4-1) just keep winning early in 2026/27, and with a record of 7-1-0 at home, this team has an opportunity to put together a fantastic campaign even in the loaded Atlantic Division. On Monday, they battled the Vegas Golden Knights (9-5-2) getting on the board early through James Hagens and Morgan Geekie, but not to be outdone, the road team came back through Mark Stone and Trevor Connelly, sending this one to overtime tied at 2-2.

Through five minutes, the teams went scoreless, and in the shootout, the first five shots were stopped until David Pastrnak stepped up and sealed the deal, with Boston remaining red-hot at home as they survive the challenge of a very good Vegas team.

Detroit Red Wings 5-3 Florida Panthers

The Detroit Red Wings (7-5-3) have been a major surprise thus far in 2026/27, and while they're still dealing with two issues off the ice, on it they've been fantastic, causing a major upset on Monday against a division foe in the Florida Panthers (8-5-2). The first two periods saw the game tied at 2-2 heading into the final frame, and there it was all Detroit, as they got tallies from Justin Faulk, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Emmitt Finnie, cruising to the 5-3 victory away from home.

It was another poor outing for Jacob Markstrom who allowed four goals on 28 shots on the night, and while the Panthers have been off to a solid start in 2026/27, the loss to Detroit sees them fall to 3-2-0 at home while the Red Wings are now 3-1-2 away from home, picking up points in five of six on the road this season.

Colorado Avalanche 5-2 Chicago Blackhawks

Despite having one of the deepest teams in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche (9-5-1) haven't been consistently dominant early in the year, but they've found their groove as of late, continuing on Monday against the Chicago Blackhawks (4-10-1). That comes despite the Blackhawks racing out to a 2-0 lead, but from there on it was all Colorado, with both Jaden Schwartz and Nazem Kadri tallying two goals each before Devon Toews finished it with an empty netter.

While Mackenzie Blackwood faced just 23 shots, he stopped 21 of them after struggling early, and with the Blackhawks moving to 4-5-0 at home early in the year, it's safe to say that this may be another tough campaign for the Original Six organization.

Calgary Flames 2-1 San Jose Sharks

The Calgary Flames (7-8-0) have been arguably the NHL's biggest surprise team through the early parts of the new season, and after an 0-5-0 start to the season, they've taken down the San Jose Sharks (7-8-1) to move to 7-2-0 in their last nine games. In this one, the star of the show was Dustin Wolf who saved 26 of the 27 shots he saw while Adam Klapka had one goal and one assist as the team managed to grind out just their second win of the season away from home.

Yaroslav Askorov was also brilliant for the Sharks as he stopped 20 of the 22 shots that the Flames sent his way, but with just one goal to Sam Dickinson late in the third period to show for it, the offense just wasn't enough as they came up short in this one.
