Thursday's NHL slate was loaded, and with six goals, both the San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins picked up dominant early wins, with the Toronto Maple Leafs surviving a tough contest with the Rangers.

Boston Bruins 6-0 Nashville Predators

The Boston Bruins (8-2-1) are always competitive, and in 2026/27, they're just as impressive with a blend of youth and experience, and against the Nashville Predators (3-3-3), the entire squad was red-hot. This game that ended with a 6-0 scoreline was highlighted by four point games to Charlie McAvoy (4A) and David Pastrnak (2G, 2A), and with two goals in each period, this was a game where the Bruins simply cruised to victory.

Unfortunately for Nashville, there were very few positives to take away as they were blanked by Michael DiPietro, who made 28 saves, and this will be a game that they want to quickly forget and move on from.

Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 New York Rangers

The Toronto Maple Leafs (6-4-2) have been dangerous this year when the offense has been in a groove, and on Thursday they managed to survive a high-scoring battle with the equally tough New York Rangers (7-4-1). The back-and-forth contest started early with three combined goals in the first period and four in the second, with the driving force for Toronto being Brandon Duhaime, who had a goal and 3 points on the night.

Despite the loss, Adam Fox starred for the Rangers with four assists, and while neither goaltender was great, Sergei Bobrovsky survived several onslaughts as the Maple Leafs managed to pick up a much needed win on home ice in this one.

San Jose Sharks 6-2 Ottawa Senators

This was a season in which the San Jose Sharks (6-4-1) were expected to take a step forward, and on the road against the Ottawa Senators (7-4-0), the team proved that they can be dominant against great teams. The third period saw the Sharks post three goals, with six different players finding the back of the net, but the star of the show was Yaroslav Askarov, who dominated on the night making an impressive 40 saves.

The Senators, a night after an emotional game on home ice just couldn't find that intensity once again, with goals to Tim Stutzle and Jordan Spence not enough to get the job done as they fall on the second night of a back-to-back.

New Jersey Devils 4-1 Anaheim Ducks

The New Jersey Devils (6-4-0) have been up-and-down early in 2026/27, but when their offense rolls, this is a great team, and with two goals in both the first and the third period, this was their most complete performance of the year. Both Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes had two points on the night, and defensively, the team were fantastic, with Nico Daws needing to make just 16 stops on the night to get the big victory on home ice.

A Tim Washe goal early in the third period brought the Anaheim Ducks (4-6-0) within one goal, but that was all they had to celebrate on the night, as the team fell to 3-3-0 away from home in a game they could have done much better in.

Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0 Florida Panthers

Last year, the Pittsburgh Penguins (4-6-1) surprised the NHL world, and in 2026/27 they started rather slow, but on Thursday facing a Florida Panthers (5-4-2) team on the second night of a back-to-back, they found their groove early. Scoring in all three periods, the Penguins goals came from Nick Robertson (2), Hendrix Lapierre and Evgeni Malkin, with the youth and the experienced players both chipping in.

In net, it was all about Arturs Silovs who stopped all 26 shots that he saw, and after travelling from Ottawa to Pittsburgh, the Panthers drop both games of their back-to-back, struggling to find their intensity in a tough game early in the season.

Los Angeles Kings 3-2 New York Islanders

The Los Angeles Kings (2-4-2) were the NHL's last winless team until recently, and now, in dramatic circumstances, the team have picked up their second victory of the season, this time over the New York Islanders (5-3-2) on the road. Early on, it was Artemi Panarin driving the offense, giving LA a 2-0 lead in the first period, but with goals to both Matthew Schaefer and Victor Eklund, the Islanders tied this game up and sent things through to overtime.

There, it took the Kings a few minutes to end the game, with Adrian Kempe delivering the pass to young defenseman Brandt Clarke, who finished things off for an LA team that has now won their last two games, getting them to 2-1-2 on the road this season.

Dallas Stars 3-2 Winnipeg Jets

The Dallas Stars (6-3-1) and Winnipeg Jets (4-3-3) have built quite the rivalry in recent times, and unsurprisingly, in their latest matchup on Thursday, there was more drama between two Central Division heavyweights. Kyle Connor and Gabriel Vilardi both posted goals on the night, and after ending the second period 2-1, the Jets looked to hold on to the lead on the road.

However, that's when Roope Hintz took over, as he scored with two minutes left in regulation, following it up with the overtime winner, taking the Stars to 3-2-0 on home ice this season as they completed the dramatic comeback.

St. Louis Blues 6-2 Vegas Golden Knights

The St. Louis Blues (5-4-1) have been off to a great start at home this season, and with a win over the red-hot Vegas Golden Knights (8-4-0), they moved to 3-0-1 in St. Louis as they look to battle for a post-season spot in the Central Division. In this one, they consistently outplayed the Golden Knights, with Justin Barron (1G, 3A) and Dylan Holloway (2G, 1A) putting the Blues on top, a lead that they simply wouldn't give away.

Vegas saw goals from Brett Howden and Jack Eichel, but with the loss, the team have now moved to 3-2-0 away from home, with the team looking to find some more consistency on the road early in 2026/27.

Calgary Flames 2-1 Minnesota Wild

The Calgary Flames (3-6-0) had just one win on the year a few games ago, but after their 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild (6-3-2), they've completed major upsets in back-to-back games. Early on, the Flames offense was buzzing, with goals to Aydar Suniev and Joel Farabee giving them a two goal lead.

In the second, Michael McCarron got one of those back, but from there, it was goaltender Devin Cooley that took over the game, stopping 35 of the 36 shots he saw on the night, as his heroics late in the game helped Calgary hold on to pick up their second straight win on home ice.

Edmonton Oilers 6-5 Carolina Hurricanes

Connor McDavid is off to a ridiculous start again in 2026/27, and unsurprisingly, he was brilliant again for the Edmonton Oilers (8-1-1) on Thursday, posting five points against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, taking him to 30 in just 10 games early in the year.

However, that wasn't enough to put the Carolina Hurricanes (8-2-2) away in regulation, as Sebastian Aho was one of three players with multiple points on the night, taking the Oilers to OT and all the way to a shootout. From there, the first two shooters for each team missed before Ryan Nugent-Hopkins posted what was the game winner, sealing an all-time classic between two teams that could very well be back in the Stanley Cup Finals this season.

Detroit Red Wings 5-2 Vancouver Canucks

The Detroit Red Wings (4-3-3) stumbled out of the gates in 2026/27, but as of late they've been much better, and on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks (2-9-1), their offense stayed hot early. By the end of the first period, with goals to William Wallinder and two to Lucas Raymond, Detroit held a 3-1 lead on the road and never let up, not only winning 5-2, but out-shooting Vancouver 31-13 in the game as well.

Despite being outplayed, the Canucks got goals from Elias Pettersson and Jonathan Lekkerimaki in this one, but with a record of 1-4-0 at home thus far, it's clearly going to be another long season for the struggling Canadian franchise.

Seattle Kraken 5-3 Utah Mammoth

The Seattle Kraken (7-3-1) have been fighting to take steps forward in recent years, and in 2026/27 they've seemingly found that chemistry, proving it at home against a very hot team in the Utah Mammoth (7-4-0). With three different goal scorers in the first two periods, the Kraken built a very solid 3-1 lead heading into the third, and while Utah went on to tie the game thanks to Logan Cooley, the Kraken stayed strong.

Instead of falling apart, the team, clearly on the rise stuck to their game, with late goals to Mackie Samoskevich and an empty netter from Frederick Gaudreau helped them seal another victory, taking the Kraken to 3-1-0 at home on the season thus far.
