JYP reminded everyone that they are still in the hotly-contested Liiga title race after a 3-2 home victory over Hameenlinna.

Alternating between defeat and victory for six matches in a row, moving up to seventh place may not appear all that impressive, but in fact they are only three points behind first place, and more significantly, have between one and three games in hand on every side above them.

Having put together a run of four wins in a row at the start of the month, Hameenlinna's form has dropped off, and only one win in their last four means they stay 11th, and have played more than the sides below them all looking to take their play-off place.

There were just over three minutes to play in the first period when Daniel Torgersson scored on the powerplay to give JYP the lead, and 1-0 was how it stayed until the 40-minute mark despite both sides having powerplay chances in the second period.

Oskari Kuusisto levelled for the visitors with seven minutes played in the third, only for Reece Newkirk to restore JYP's lead three minutes later, which Atte Ohtamaa doubled late on with an empty-netter, before Brendan Ranford added a consolation in the final minute to complete the 3-2 scoreline.
