09:00 CET - Meanwhile over in Tokyo, Nuno Borges is the second player through on day one of the tournament after a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win against home player Yosuke Watanuki.
08:50 CET - A couple more results are in from Beijing as Kamilla Rakhimova won in straight sets against Lucia Bronzetti, whilst Caty McNally has stunned Laura Siegemund 6-4, 6-2 to advance.
Rakhimova will face world number three Coco Gauff in the second round, as McNally has a tough test of her own against world number 10 Elena Rybakina.
