Hosting the side immediately above them in the Bundesliga table, Die Schwaben showed plenty of early intent. Chris Fuhrich, fresh from his first appearance for Germany since November 2024, looked particularly bright despite his ambitious effort from range being routinely saved by Gregor Kobel.
Sebastian Hoenes’s side continued to apply pressure, with Marcel Sabitzer being forced to throw himself in front of a Führich shot after Kobel had denied Angelo Stiller.
Stuttgart showed no signs of slowing down, but an opener continued to evade them, as Deniz Undav fired over following a long throw from Ramon Hendriks, and Serhou Guirassy got his head in the way of a venomous Führich strike.
Fuhrich then offered the visitors a reprieve after Undav had won a foul from Nico Schlotterbeck near the edge of the box, as his free-kick floated harmlessly over Kobel’s crossbar.
His more threatening half-volley fizzed over shortly before Carney Chukwuemeka sent a rare Dortmund attempt convincingly wide ahead of the break.

The second half’s early stages looked more encouraging for Niko Kovac, although Lorenz Assignon still brought a save out of Kobel after a well-worked corner from the hosts.
Karim Adeyemi and Fabio Silva were introduced for Dortmund shortly after the hour mark, and it wasn’t long until Jamie Leweling was brought on as both teams looked for an edge with the match now being tightly contested.
There was a slight scare for Ramy Bensebaini before his header back to Kobel was gathered, but both teams struggled to create problems for the opposing goalkeeper despite more attacking substitutions being made.
Stiller and Leweling curled a late shot apiece off-target, with the highest-scoring fixture in Bundesliga looking destined to end goalless.
Adeyemi changed that in the 94th minute, though, as he did brilliantly to touch down Jeff Chabot’s attempted clearance and provided a clinical finish.
Mere moments later, Julian Brandt rounded off a blistering counter by firing into the roof of Alexander Nubel’s net to secure Die Schwarzgelben’s fourth consecutive win, which takes them 11 points ahead of Stuttgart and nine behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Die Schwaben fall behind RB Leipzig on goal difference following their first defeat in seven Bundesliga matches.
