After over a month and the fall of 46 nations, Spain and Argentina are the last two standing, and will battle it out for the biggest prize in football this Sunday.

23:34 CET - A word for Messi, who was quiet for most of the match but once again ultimately made all the difference, setting up both goals. The first assist might not have been anything special, but the second was glorious, as was the way he dictated the game once England sat back.
He now has 12 assists in World Cup history, at least four more than anybody else.
23:28 CET - Argentina deserve a huge amount of credit, but Thomas Tuchel has some serious questions to answer after that.
England very much had things under control until he switched to a back five immediately after their goal - banking on sitting deep and holding on for over 30 minutes against a side with Argentina's quality and mentality is extremely brave.
He was brought in to be an evolution of Gareth Southgate, but just like his predecessor, he's paid the price for making cautious in-game changes.
23:18 CET - Once again, Argentina have scraped through with some late heroics, but it's fair to say they deserved this win. They created far more over the course of the match, kept their cool after going behind and won with some real quality.

The Three Lions looked set to make their first World Cup final since 1966, but Tuchel's changes handed Argentina the initiative and the reigning champions made the most of it, with a bit of Messi magic making the difference as it so often has.

However things have panned out, there has always been quality and controversy aplenty, and little to choose between them, with just one of the six clashes ending with one side more than a goal clear of the other.

In the 2026 World Cup, both the world champions Argentina and Euros finalists England have battled their way to the semi-finals without playing the most convincing brand of football and riding their luck in crucial moments.
England's victories against Mexico at the Azteca and then against Erling Haaland's Norway in the quarter-finals are more impressive on paper than Argentina's unconvincing wins against Cape Verde, Egypt and Switzerland, all of which had to be decided in extra-time.
