Former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt says she regrets sharing a post on Instagram which labels last year's Brondby away shirt as a "trouble and ghetto-celebration."

Helle Thorning-Schmidt and designer Soeren Le Schmidt have joined forces to created the design for this year's Brondby away shirt which generally hasn't been received very well by the Brondby supporters.

On Monday evening, Thorning-Schmidt reposted an Instagram story where the new shirt is compared to Brondby's away shirt from last year:

"Absolutely no one has asked, but everyone is talking about it... So YES, I prefer this year's away shirt with modern retro kitsch vibes to last year's trouble and ghetto-celebration," it says.

The designer of last year's away shirt, tattoo artist Hans Henrik Fagerhold, says to eb.dk that Helle Thorning-Schmidt's post is incompehensible.

"I think it's unnecessary to share something like that. She's entitled to her opinion, we all are. It's subjective whether you like the new or old shirt better. But I really don't understand why she needs to share something that belittles something else."

The original author of the Instagram post has now deleted it and Helle Thorning-Schmidt says that she regrets reposting it.

"I shared that story way too quickly, but luckily it was deleted again. Because I actually really like the old away shirt. It was a quick post in the debate, but then I found out that there are also a lot of emotions at stake."

"I posted something that others had said to illustrate the debate about the shirt. Just as people don't like ours, there's a debate to be had. It wasn't really an expression that I didn't like the shirt myself. But I think the debate is fair enough."

Brondby will be in action Thursday night in the qualification for the Conference League when they take on Strabourg at home.
