Heading into the winter break, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce sealed emphatic wins in the Super Lig, while Trabzonspor suffered their first loss since September in a seven-goal thriller.

Fenerbache were in action first on Saturday, as they paid a visit to Eyupspor. And keeping in recent performances, it was the in-form duo of Anderson Talisca and Marco Asensio who stole the show, helping their team ease to a 3-0 win

The pair each registered a goal and an assist, meaning Fenerbahce have now scored eight goals in their last three games without reply.

Talisca has been in especially red-hot touch, with six strikes in his last three appearances.

Still the only unbeaten side left in the Super Lig and unbeaten since September in all competitions, they will now be hoping to have a busy January transfer window to bolster their squad, as they look to win the title and go deep in the Europa League.

PSV's Joey Veerman is reportedly close to a move to the Istanbul giants, which would be a fine addition to their midfield.

As a result of the victory, they temporarily moved into first place, before Galatasaray took to the pitch.

The three-time defending champions hosted Kasimpasa the following day, looking to reclaim their position at the summit of the table.

In the end, it was as good a performance as they have put in in a while, as they also won 3-0, even without Victor Osimhen, Mario Lemina and Ismail Jakobs, who are at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Yunus Akgun was fantastic in the number 10 role, opening the scoring before setting up Gabriel Sara's fine strike for their second of the game.

Mauro Icardi - who is set to be vital in the next few weeks in the absence of Osimhen - capped things off with a lovely finish, making history in the process.

His 60th Super Lig goal, he overtook Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi as Galatasaray's top non-Turkish goalscorer of all time.

Despite not being the player he once was, he still remains a sharpshooter, and his numbers remain supreme. Despite barely starting this season, he has nine Super Lig goals - only two players have more.

So Galatasaray head into the winter break three points clear at the top. The title race is poised tantalisingly. It is going to be an epic 2026.

Trabzonspor suffer thrilling defeat

After their 3-3 draw with Besiktas last week, Trabzonspor were involved in another epic encounter, this time falling 4-3 at Genclerbirligi - their first loss in the Super Lig since September 14th.

It was truly a chaotic game. Trabzon battled from 2-0 down, with Felipe Augusto scoring a brace starting up front in place of Paul Onuachu, who is with Nigeria at AFCON.

But Genclerbirligi pushed ahead again to go 4-2 up. Despite a late penalty from Ernest Muci, they were unable to find an equaliser, dropping three crucial points.

Now seven points behind Galatasaray, their quest for the title has taken a major hit in the last few weeks. They remain in the equation, but their hopes are fading away.
