With Arsenal stepping out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the North London derby on Sunday afternoon, Man City are just two points behind them, breathing down their neck.

Pep Guardiola's side beat Newcastle on Saturday evening and have put the Gunners under huge pressure to deliver all three points against Spurs.

Just as with the North London derby that took place earlier in the season, in which Eberechi Eze was the star man with a hat-trick, Arsenal dropped points in the lead-up to the game. Coincidentally, that was a 2-2 draw against Sunderland, to go with the 2-2 they've just contested at Wolves.

That November victory meant that Mikel Arteta's side had won six of their last seven Premier League games against Tottenham, including the last four in a row. It remains their longest winning run against their local rivals since January 1987 and January 1989 (five matches).

Prior to that draw at the Stadium of Light, the Gunners had gone 812 minutes without conceding a goal in all competitions.

Though Brentford also managed to find the net against them recently, Arteta can still point to four wins to nil (Wigan 4-0, Chelsea 1-0, Sunderland 3-0 and Leeds United 4-0) in another recent run as evidence that the Gunners are made of stronger stuff than they're often given credit for.

Tottenham haven't won the NLD since May 2022

Tottenham's fight for points as well as a decent level of performance is obvious, and interim head coach Igor Tudor can make himself an overnight hero with the Spurs faithful if he's able to pull off one of the shocks of the season.

Indeed, a win for Spurs would be their first against Arsenal in the league since May 2022.

The Lilywhites certainly need to get a move on if they want more European football next season, as they still trail fifth-placed Chelsea by a cavernous 15 points.

Currently in 16th place on 29 points, the focus should really remain on pulling away from the relegation places and staying in the division, rather than having delusions of grandeur concerning an unlikely finish in the Europa League places.

Injuries aplenty

Richarlison was on the scoresheet in the 4-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, and the Brazilian still leads the scoring charts at the club with seven goals.

It's touch and go whether he makes the starting line-up for this match, and along with Pedro Porro, he'll face a late fitness test.

Definitely unavailable is captain, Cristian Romero, after his recent red card, along with Kevin Danso, Destiny Udogie, Lucas Bergvall, Ben Davies, Mo Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Wilson Odobert and James Maddison.

Max Dowman and Mikel Merino are out for the Gunners, though both Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard could feature.

Gyokeres needs to bring his A game

One player in red and white that really does need to start stamping his authority on games is Viktor Gyokeres.

Although the Swedish international has eight league goals and remains the club's most productive player in that regard, it's his associative play that has seriously let him down.

Against Wolves, for example, he had one touch in the opponent's box, no shots whatsoever, and just 12 touches of the ball in 64 minutes played. Even then, his pass completion was a woeful 65.2%.

For a player who cost the club £55m, Arsenal have every right to expect much, much better.

Bukayo Saka, a scorer against Wolves - with his first goal in 15 matches - remains the player with the most shots at goal (51) and the most on target (22), and Gyokeres could do well to study the England international's movements and taking up of positions in space, in order to improve his own goalscoring offering.

Just 10 points at home for Spurs in 25/26

He and his colleagues head into the game on the back of a six-match unbeaten streak away, whilst Tottenham have only managed to accrue 10 points at home from a possible 39 available this season.

Although neither Harry Kane nor Son Heung-min featured in the game at the Emirates - the first time both hadn't played in the NLD since September 2014 - Sunday's fixture will be the first NLD without one or the other at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kane (14) and Son (8) were responsible for 27% of Spurs’ Premier League goals against Arsenal (22/82), and how Tudor could do with marksmen of a similar ilk as his team approaches their final dozen games of the 2025/25 campaign.

One area that the hosts might look to exploit is with regard to Arsenal's collective pass completion.

Against Wolves, their second-half passing accuracy was just 75.1%, their fourth lowest in a Premier League game in 25/26. Of the other three occasions where the Gunners were poor in this regard, one came against Spurs.

Tudor's aggressive style of play might therefore give Arteta's swashbucklers something else to concern themselves with, as they look to ensure that they don't drop points for the fifth time in seven games.
