Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has revealed how Christmas brings a huge mental boost to his side.

After 17 matches, the Seagulls sit 9th in the top-flight table, having collected 24 points. Brighton are preparing to face league leaders Arsenal after the Christmas break, which could help the side turn their mixed form around.

Hurzeler, speaking at his latest press conference, opened up on how crucial Christmas is for his side, who he gives plenty of time off over the festive break.

"We stay in our in our normal rhythm, but definitely I try to give them more time off because it's family time and I think family is the most important in life.

"There's football, and I'm sure that some of my players don't see their families that often. So they have the chance to see them now, they have the chance to get mentally recovered, to see their loved ones, to have nice chats, to have maybe nice surprises, to spend some time together.

"I think it's so important for their mental health, it's so important for them to see their family and to enjoy the time. That's why I try to give them as much time off as possible. And I think that's all my responsibility. And then I hope that they come back stronger."

Arsenal arrive as clear favourites this weekend, but the Christmas break often throws a spanner in the works as players eat and drink more than usual whilst also having a mental break, which can often refresh a side both mentally and physically.
