Marseille's football director, Medhi Benatia, has announced his departure on social media. "After careful consideration, I took responsibility and decided, on Monday, February 9th, to end my collaboration with OM," he wrote.

In a lengthy post shared on his social media, Benatia emphasised that Marseille is "still in the race," stating that "the goal of qualifying for the Champions League is clearly within our reach, and we are still competing to bring the Coupe de France home."

He pointed to the "current climate" and expressed feeling "growing dissatisfaction, a break that I deeply regret."

He confirmed the news that had circulated in the media earlier this week: "I have indeed submitted (not just offered) my resignation, because in my view, the club always comes before individuals, and I do not want my presence to become an obstacle or a burden for the organisation and its development.

"That is why, after careful consideration, I took responsibility and decided, on Monday, February 9th, to end my collaboration with OM."

"I leave with the feeling that I gave my all professionally, but with the regret of not having managed to calm the environment around the group, which I believe has more than enough ability to achieve the targets set.

"Keep supporting them, encourage them as you always do! I wish the players and staff every success for the rest of the season," he concluded.
