A goal and assist from Ilan Kebbal helped Paris FC avoid their third straight Ligue 1 defeat in miraculous fashion, as they fought back from a 3-0 deficit at the hour mark to draw 3-3 against Lyon, who missed out on the chance to go level on points with leaders PSG.

The match began in driving rain, with Lyon – who were targeting a third successive victory – taking the game to their hosts from the first whistle.

Just five minutes in, Corentin Tolisso controlled a long ball upfield from his keeper, Dominik Greif, before placing a left-footed shot out of Obed Nkambadio’s reach.

Paris were barely able to get out of their own half in the opening exchanges as Lyon knocked the ball around with ease, leaving the hosts’ Thibault De Smet to do the majority of the donkey work in winning possession back for his side.

To combat an incessant onslaught, Paris often packed the central areas with all 10 outfield players, appearing content to allow Lyon to play down the channels. Their own frustrations soon boiled over though, when Samir Chergui flattened Tolisso and was promptly booked by the official.

The resulting free-kick from Tyler Morton was deflected to safety, though it soon appeared that Lyon had scored a second after a horrific mistake from Nkambadio. However, Afonso Moreira was adjudged to be offside.

Moses Simon was making a nuisance of himself and Willem Geubbels sent a header over at the start of the second 45 as the hosts came out with the bit between their teeth.

Maxime Lopez almost seized upon a half-chance, but the ball was played up the other end in a flash, and Moreira raced into space before supplying a sublime assist for Pavel Sulc to tap into an empty net.

A third goal for the visitors was inevitable once Paris decided to play a high line, and the same two players combined for a fantastic finish just before the hour. Moreira’s first touch freed Sulc but he still had plenty to do, galloping forward to escape the attentions of the last defender before looping a right-footed lob over a static Nkambadio.

Lyon’s Abner Vinicius was shown a straight red on the hour for an awful tackle, giving the hosts some slight hope of a memorable comeback.

Within five minutes, Adama Camara swivelled in the penalty area and volleyed home the goal of the game.

A brief period of home pressure was soon curtailed as De Smet received a second yellow after bringing down Sulc, levelling up the numbers once more.

Yet, Paris still poured forward, with Jean-Phillipe Krasso going close, and as the clock reached 77, Kebbal let fly with a curling effort from outside the box to reduce the deficit further.

Incredibly, Vincent Marchetti, just a minute after coming on, saw his speculative effort deflected past Greif to make it 3-3.

The draw stopped Paris from enduring a fourth defeat in the last six games, and although it is still a run which has seen them win just once, they will take great confidence from such a comeback.
