The Danish international Alexander Bah made his comeback on Saturday, stepping onto the field a year and 13 days after suffering a serious injury while playing for Benfica, in the home match against AFS in Liga Portugal.

The footballer was included in José Mourinho’s starting lineup and couldn’t have asked for a better return, as he scored the opening goal in the 11th minute, which was met with enthusiastic celebrations from his teammates in Lisbon.

After the match, coach Jose Mourinho praised Bah for his performance:

"I was more than happy with Bah. I had doubts about whether to start him or whether he should come on as a substitute. But took responsibility himself and said that 90 minutes would be a lot in the end, but coming on for 20 or 25 minutes would be too little. So we decided that he should start and play as long as he could", Mourinho said, according to Portuguese media A Bola.

Alexander Bah, 28, was already listed in the squad for the first leg of the Champions League play-off for a spot in the round of 16, which Benfica lost 1-0 at home to Spanish side Real Madrid, but he did not play.

On February 8, 2025, Bah suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, leaving the field injured in the 34th minute during the home game against Moreirense in the 21st round of the 2024/25 Liga Portugal season.
