Top seeds Lyon will take on Celta Vigo in the round of 16, whilst second seeds Aston Villa will face Lille, as the Europa League draw for the next round of the competition took place in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday afternoon.

Lille needed extra time on Thursday night to see off Serbian side Red Star Belgrade with Nathan Ngoy scoring the winner, and their reward is a tough assignment against Aston Villa for a spot in the quarter-finals.

Another side who needed additional time in midweek was Genk, who eventually saw off Dinamo Zagreb after a six-goal thriller in the second leg. The Belgian side will now face Freiburg in the next round. Bologna and Roma will meet in an all-Italian tie.

Elsewhere, third-seeded FC Midtjylland face the tough prospect of Nottingham Forest, after they scraped past Fenerbache with Callum Hudson-Odoi getting them out of trouble at the City Ground in the second leg. Meanwhile, Real Betis will take on Panathinaikos, who beat Viktoria Plzen on penalties, despite being down to 10 men for the last portion of extra time.

Hungarian side Ferencvaros face a trip to the Iberian Peninsula, where they will take on Braga.

The Europa League final will be held in Istanbul on May 20th.

Road to Istanbul formed

Much like the earlier Champions League draw, the bracket is now set for the rest of the Europa League.

The two English sides left in the competition, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, could meet at the semi-final stage as both chase the glories of yesteryear, whilst the 'silver' side of the bracket looks good for Lyon, who will avoid some big hitters, with possible ties against Freiburg, Braga or Betis to come.
