The Eredivisie game between NEC and FC Utrecht on Friday, January 9th, has been cancelled due to bad weather, the league confirmed.

The Netherlands saw massive snowfall during the week, causing major issues in public transport and service branches.

As a precaution given this weekend's weather forecast, the Eredivisie CV, the league's governing body, has postponed Friday's game between NEC and FC Utrecht.

"In addition to doubts about the playability of the pitches, based on current forecasts, the safety of players, supporters and staff in and around the stadium cannot be sufficiently guaranteed due to the extreme weather conditions," the Eredivisie CV said in a statement.

Besides the NEC-FC Utrecht game, all Keuken Kampioen Divisie games scheduled for the weekend of January 9-11 have been called off as well.

The eight other Eredivisie games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday are set to be played as usual, but are subject to cancellation depending on the weather forecast.

"All stadiums in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie have natural grass and pitch heating, which means there is a greater chance that these pitches can be made ready for play in time. This obviously depends on weather developments in the coming days, but it means that no premature decision needs to be made yet," Thursday's Eredivisie CV statement read.
