Ajax and Kasper Dolberg are reportedly in talks with Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland about a potential return to his native Denmark.

Dolberg, 28, returned to Ajax from Anderlecht on a four-year contract last season after completing a move worth up to €10 million. The Dane played a disappointing campaign in his first season back in Amsterdam since 2019, scoring just eight goals in 36 games across all competitions, including three in 22 league games.

During the second half of the season, Dolberg scored just twice, with his last Ajax goal coming on January 28th against Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League.

With technical director Jordi Cruyff intent on overhauling the Ajax squad, Dolberg is likely to leave as he reportedly does not meet Cruyff's pressing standards.

According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Superliga side FC Midtjylland are in talks with club and player about a potential transfer. Midtjylland, who finished second behind AGF Aarhus in Denmark, hope to lure Dolberg back to his native Denmark, where he last played in 2016 for Silkeborg.

Dolberg is still under contract at Ajax until 2029 and has a market value of €6.8 million on Flashscore.
