Already eliminated from the UEFA Conference League (UECL), BK Hacken ended their campaign with 1-0 defeat to SK Slovan Bratislava, as Cesar Blackman’s superb solo goal earned the Slovakian champions a fifth win in six home matches.

With neither side able to qualify for the knockout round, the early stages of the ‘dead rubber’ in Bratislava were closely fought, as Tigran Barseghyan saw a close-range effort thwarted by Andreas Linde.

The hosts continued to up the ante after a dominant opening quarter-hour, with Linde parrying away a speculative strike from Danylo Ignatenko.

Having settled into the contest, the visitors looked to pose a threat at the other end, as Adrian Svanback skewed an effort wide of the far post.

Undeterred, Slovan remained in charge of proceedings, but a breakthrough proved to be elusive, with Nino Marcelli firing a dangerous effort narrowly wide and Barseghyan seeing a low strike comfortably saved by Linde.

Without a win from any of their last eight competitive fixtures (D5, L3), Hacken started the second period brightly, as Svanback blazed wastefully over from six yards.

That narrow escape spurred the hosts on, and they should’ve taken the lead shortly before the hour mark when Guram Kashia and Marko Tolic spurned a couple of glorious opportunities in quick succession.

Both teams continued to probe for an opener with time ticking into the final 20 minutes, and Mikkel Rygaard’s strike looked bound for the top corner, only for Martin Trnovsky to produce a stunning one-handed save to deny the visitors.

That proved to be crucial, as Slovan finally broke the deadlock in the 84th minute when right-back Blackman skipped past several challenges on the wing before cutting in and finishing clinically beyond Linde.

The visitors pushed for a late response, but despite seeing plenty of the ball in the final third, Slovan held firm to end their UECL campaign on a high.
