The forward has 19 months remaining on the £400,000-a-week contract he signed in April, and reports claim that the January transfer window could be the perfect time to call time on his stay in Merseyside.
Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are expected to back Slot over Salah, and his omission from the squad to face Inter is very telling for the club, who are now likely to offload the 33-year-old next month.
Saudi Pro League recruiters have long coveted a move for the Egypt international in what seems like his next destination before retirement. Speaking to an Egyptian broadcaster last season, Salah revealed that he had held talks with SPL clubs before renewing his Reds deal.
He told ON Sport: "My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious.
"It was a good opportunity for me; if I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool, it would have happened."
