AGF will face either Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC from Israel or Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda) from Serbia who won the Champions League in 1991 if they proceed to the playoff round in the Champions League. That was the outcome for the Danish champions when the draw for the playoff round today was made in UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Red Star Belgrade has won the Champions League (historically known as the European Cup) exactly once, capturing the title in 1991. However, the team today is far from the strength they enjoyed back then, where players like Darko Pancev, Sinisa Mihajlovic, and Robert Prosinecki starred as the key players in the team.

In order for AGF to qualify for the playoff round, AGF will have to beat Sabah FK from Azerbaijan. The first match is played on Wednesday in Randers.
