German Bundesliga outfit HSV on Monday confirmed that former sports director Stefan Kuntz was sacked on the back of allegations of sexual harassment.

“In December 2025, the Supervisory Board of HSV Fußball Management AG received allegations of serious misconduct by Stefan Kuntz,” the club said in a statement.

According to their assessment, the statements made by the affected parties were credible and Hamburg chose to end the collaboration with immediate effect.

The former German international agreed to this, but he repeatedly refused to make a statement to the board. For this reason, the board today made a stement where they rejected allegations that a smear campaign was being run against Stefan Kuntz as he otherwise claimed yesterday in a post on social media Sunday where he also said that he would seek legal counsel against German media source "Bild", who were the first to bring the story.

Finally, HSV emphasizes in their statement that they do not tolerate any form of sexual harassment and stand firm on values such as respect, tolerance and non-discriminatory behavior.

Kuntz represented the Germany national team between 1993 and 1997, reaching the 1994 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals and winning UEFA Euro 1996. He scored six goals from 25 full caps, including in the Euro 1996 semi-final elimination of England.

As coach, Kuntz was in charge of the German Under-21 national team from 2016-2021 and was coach of the Turkish national team from 2021-2023
