Victories over Kruger United (3-1) and Sekhukhune United (2-0) have been comprehensive enough, but perhaps the big test comes on Saturday when they face Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium.
That will be the true test of their early season form, having shown promise at the start of recent campaigns.
It is in fact the third campaign in a frow where they have won their opening two league games, though the previous two years had contrasting outcomes.
The season before last they ended in ninth after a bright start, and in 2025-26 were able to convert it into a third-place finish.
Chiefs hold the record for the best start to a league season, one that will likely never be beaten given the demands of modern football, back in the National Soccer League in 1991 in the year that unity was achieved with the Federation Professional League.
Six clubs from the FPL joined with the 18 NSL sides in a new-look 24-team league.
Chiefs had narrowly lost out to Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race the previous season, pipped on goal difference, but came out guns blazing in 1991 under coach Jeff Butler.
They started by beating Fed newcomers Manning Rangers 4-0 away and then scored four more against each of Free State Stars and Bosmont Chelsea before putting a strong Hellenic team to the sword at the Rand Stadium in a 6-0 thumping.
Their next game was another from the FPL, Real Taj, who Chiefs demolished 8-2 with four goals from Fani Madida. Two weeks after that, the derby against Orlando Pirates was won 3-0 and by mid-season, AmaKhosi had gone 17 wins in a row when they edged Moroka Swallows 2-1 at Soccer City.
The run came to an end in a 1-1 draw away at Bloemfontein Celtic where they came from behind to rescue a point thanks to a Madida equaliser.
It is hard to see that mark being beaten given how packed the fixture list is these days for teams at the top of the table, who generally are involved in CAF Interclub action too that has a drain on domestic form.
Chiefs also set a record for the PSL when they won eight in a row at the start of the 2014-15 season, beating Free State Stars, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Bloemfontein Celtic, Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, University of Pretoria, Maritzburg United and Ajax Cape Town before being held at home by Moroka Swallows.
That side, under coach Stuart Baxter, went onto win the league title at the end of that campaign, which is the last league title they won, as they went unbeaten for their first 21 games of the season.
Mamelodi Sundowns subsequently beat Chiefs’ PSL record by winning their first 11 games of the 2023-24 season before a 0-0 draw with Cape Town City.
