Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled a 23-man squad for next month’s 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), to be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

In a bold move, Chelle has placed his trust in NPFL champions Remo Stars, with nine players from the league-winning side making the final cut.

Captain Junior Nduka headlines the list, joined by Godwin Obaje and Sikiru Alimi, both expected to anchor Super Eagles’ quest for glory. Others include Ozoemena Ani, Stephen Mayo and Sodiq Ismaila, as well as Anas Yusuf.

After weeks of intensive training at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ogun State, the team departed Nigeria on Thursday night en route to Zanzibar for the second phase of their preparation.

The Zanzibar training camp, running from July 25 to 31, will offer the squad crucial fine-tuning before the tournament kicks off. As part of their final preparations, the Eagles will face Zanzibar in two friendly matches on July 28 and 31.

“All of us are like brothers, we know ourselves from the different clubs. It’s normal, meeting ourselves here,” Obaje told Super Eagles Media.

“I’m looking forward to the tournament. I’m prepared, and we need to give our best. You know Nigeria is one of the best countries in Africa. We are preparing very well.”

Drawn into Group D, Nigeria will battle defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo in what promises to be a fiercely contested group stage.
