Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has admitted he feels a 'little pain' when weighing his options ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stage.

Fielding a second-string side against Uganda in their final Group C match, the Super Eagles secured a 3-1 victory, with Raphael Onyedika scoring a brace.

With Onyedika, Paul Onuachu, Igoh Ogbu, Ryan Alebiosu, Moses Simon and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru all pressing for starting roles in the next match, the Franco-Malian coach admitted he is fortunate to have an abundance of options.

First, he stressed that there is no time for celebration following the emphatic win over the East and Central African side in Fes.

"Every day I work. I have my vision. Sometimes it’s very good, sometimes it’s very bad, but that is football," said Chelle.

"We work every day, we work hard. The team worked hard, and the group gave a good answer (against Uganda) because the players who didn’t start the tournament started and showed something.

"They scored three goals, and I am very happy for that. So now, I have a little pain in my head because I have a lot of choices because everyone can play in the team, and it's perfect for me."

The former Mali coach also declined to compare the team that faced the Cranes with those that played against Tanzania and Tunisia, while also revealing what he loves about the city of Fez.

"I don’t want to compare the teams because this is two different systems," he added.

"The only thing I have on my mind is to continue the work with the players, and we have a few days to be ready for the round of 16.

"Playing at this stage is a lot of pressure for sure, but I am actually fascinated by that.

"I am very happy to stay in Fez because the town is good, calm, and the people are very nice to the team. We are focused, we have our pitch, and we can do a lot of training sessions. I’m happy to stay here even if the weather is very cold."

Despite scoring eight goals in three matches, the three-time African champions have yet to keep a clean sheet, but coach Chelle insists this is not a cause for concern.

"When we score goals, people ask why we score so many, and when we don’t, they ask why we aren’t scoring. That is football," he added.

"What matters is that we create a lot of chances, and if you want to win games, you have to score more than your opponent.

"Some coaches focus on not conceding, others focus on scoring more goals. I prefer to look at the positives and stay fully focused on the next game."

Nigeria will take on either Mozambique, Cameroon or reigning African champions the Ivory Coast on January 5th, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
