Jonas Vingegaard claimed his first Paris-Nice victory after the eighth and final stage, which was won by Frenchman Lenny Martinez, who outsprinted him in front of the Allianz Riviera on Sunday in Nice.

Having won two stages, the Danish rider from the Visma-Lease a bike team secured the overall title with a massive lead of 4 minutes and 23 seconds over Colombian Dani Martinez—the largest margin since 1939.

German Georg Steinhauser completed the podium, finishing ahead of two Frenchmen, Kévin Vauquelin and Lenny Martinez.

Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike)secured his career-first overall victory at Paris-Nice after otherwise finishing second on the 8th stage, as he lost out narrowly to Lenny Martinez (Bahrain-Victorious) in a sprint after the pair had broken away from the peloton in the final phase of the race.

"Today was almost the perfect day. We had a fun day, riding full throttle all day. Now I have finally been able to win Paris-Nice. It has been difficult for me. I am very happy to be sitting here in the yellow jersey. I would have loved to win the stage too, but Lenny was very strong and deserves the victory too."

"It means a lot to me to win. It has been the race I couldn't win. Now I finally won it. It makes me extremely happy. It is a good start to the year. I am very proud of that", said Vingegaard after the race to TV2 Sport.
