Danish sports director Kim Andersen from Team | Lidl-Trek has been excluded from taking part in Saturday's stage of the Tour of the Basque Country after he crashed into Markel Beloki from UCI WorldTeam EF Education–EasyPost on Saturday's stage.

Team Lidl Trek's Danish sports director, Kim Andersen, will not take part in Saturday's final stage of the Tour of the Basque Country.

He has been excluded after a collision on Friday's stage.

Television images showed that Andersen, in his sports director's car, wanted to drive towards a Lidl-Trek rider in a breakaway, but hit Markel Beloki, who, however, stayed on the bike and was not injured by the relatively gentle collision.

Subsequently, Beloki complained by making gestures at Andersen, and the collision has now had consequences for the Danish sports director.

Andersen has also been awarded a yellow card and a fine of 1,000 Swiss francs, corresponding to slightly more than 8,000 kroner.

Friday's crucial stage did not develop particularly well for Lidl-Trek in several ways.

The team's Danish rider Mattias Skjelmose lost more than 18 minutes to the winner and dropped far back in the overall standings, where he was fifth before the stage.

Before the last stage, Skjelmose is down to 26th place overall – around 21 minutes behind the leading Frenchman, Paul Seixas, who is only 19 years old.
