The Buffalo Sabres continue to stay hot as they extended their win streak to seven games with an overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators during the NHL's 13-game slate on December 23rd!

Sabres 3-2 Senators

Bowen Byram not only scored the game's first goal to put the Sabres up 1-0, but his eighth goal of the season would be a game-winner 31 seconds into overtime to extend the Sabres' win streak to seven.

After a Ridly Greig (3) put the Sens on the board to make it 1-1, Buffalo retook the lead thanks to a Noah Ostlund (6) goal in the second. But Ottawa's Tim Stutzle (18) would take advantage during a power play to make it 2-2 heading into the third frame, where both teams would go scoreless to force overtime.

Buffalo, once at the very bottom of the league this season, has now improved to 18-14-4.

As for Ottawa, they saw their four-game win streak snapped as they fell to 18-13-5.

Red Wings 4-3 Stars

Four of the seven goals were scored on the power play, three of which came in the third period alone.

Emmitt Finnie (9) scored the first to tie it all up 2-2 for the Red Wings. But Dallas' star forward Wyatt Johnson (20) scored the second PP goal to retake the lead.

With under five minutes left, Detroit's own star Dylan Larkin scored the third power-play goal of the period to tie it back up at three apiece.

Then, just 34 seconds into OT, Lark (20) scored again to give the Red Wings a win over the second-best team in the league.

Detroit improved to 22-13-3 as they ride a three-game win streak and rank No. 5 in the league-wide standings. Goaltender John Gibson would also improve his winning streak to eight games.

Dallas fell to 25-7-6.

Canadiens 6-2 Bruins

After the Bruins got out to a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Marat Khusnutdinov (5) and Alex Steeves (8), a first period in which the Bruins put up a whopping 17 shots on goal, it would be a Montreal onslaught the rest of the game.

Ivan Demidov (9) would tie it up in the second before the surge in the third took off.

The four goals scored by Zachary Bolduc (10), Cole Caufield (18), Nick Suzuki (11), and Juraj Slafkovsky (11) would all be within two minutes of each other in succession, outshooting Boston 21-11 the rest of the game.

Montreal improved to 20-12-5, while Boston fell to 20-17-1 after now having lost back-to-back games.

Panthers 5-2 Hurricanes

Similar to the Habs/Bruins game, after the Hurricanes got out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Eric Robinson (8) and Andrei Svechnikov (9), it was all Florida.

The Panthers were held to just three and five shots on goal through the first two periods, respectively. In the third frame, however, they would score five straight goals on a total of 14 shots on net.

Three of the goals were assisted by Sam Reinhart, who brought his season total up to 19.

Niko Mikkola (1), Luke Kunin (2), Anton Lundell (12), Sam Bennett (13), and Seth Jones (6) all scored for Florida as they improved to 20-14-2.

Carolina dropped their second in a row and fell to 22-11-3.

Rangers 7-3 Capitals

Getting tired of the trend of teams scoring a bunch in a row late in the game? Of course not! It happened for the Rangers when they scored five straight in the third period to decimate the Capitals.

Taylor Raddysh would score his first of two goals to put New York up 1-0 early on. Washington would take the lead in the second frame thanks to a goal from John Carlson (8) and a power-play one from Dylan Strome (7).

Will Cuylle (10) would tie things back up for the Rangers with a power play goal of his own before Washington's Aliaksei Protas (13) would give the Caps a 3-2 lead less than a minute later.

Then the third period came.

Raddysh (7) would score his second goal to start the third, to have it followed up by Alexis Lafrenière (8), two goals from Vincent Trocheck (8), and an empty-netter from Artemi Panarin (14) as the Rangers improved to 19-16-4.

Washington fell to 19-13-5.

Islanders 2-1 New Jersey Devils

Brett Pesce scored his first goal of the season for the Devils to give them a 1-0 lead with under five minutes remaining in the first period. It wouldn't be until the second period that the Isles finally got on the board.

Simon Holmstrom (7) tied it up 1-1 heading into the third period, where the Isles faithful would see some last-minute magic.

Adam Pelech (2) would get one by New Jersey's Jacob Markstrom, who made 30 saves on the night, with 1:15 left in the game en route to an Islanders win.

The Islanders moved up to second in the Metropolitan Division with a 20-13-4 record.

New Jersey dropped their second straight and fell to 20-16-1.

Maple Leafs 6-3 Penguins

William Nylander ended his 11-game scoreless drought after being the one to put the Leafs on the board in the first period to go up 1-0.

Pittsburgh's Bryan Rust (13) would score 44 seconds later to tie it up, but two straight goals from Matias Maccelli (5) and Steven Lorentz (4) would put the Leafs back on top 3-1.

But the Penguins began to rally after Rutger McGroarty (2) and Anthony Mantha (11) tied it back up at three apiece. It wasn't until Max Domi (4) retook the lead for Toronto that helped lift them to a win (followed by a pair of empty netters from Bobby McMann (10) and Nylander (11).

The Leafs ended their three-game skid as they improved to 16-15-5.

Pittsburgh fell to 15-12-9.

Predators 3-2 Wild

Brock Faber (7) put the Wild up 1-0 in the first period, with an assist from Quinn Hughes, his 24th of the season. Hughes now has at least one point in four of the six games he's played for Minnesota since being acquired in the blockbuster trade with the Canucks

But a pair of power play goals from Nashville's Ryan O'Reilly (11) and Roman Josi (3), which O'Reilly also assisted on, put them up 2-1 heading into the second frame.

Joel Eriksson Ek (9) would tie it up for the Wild before heading to a scoreless third period.

Steven Stamkos (15) scored the OT winner as Nashville won their third straight and improved to 16-16-4.

After going on a seven-game win streak, Minnesota has now dropped back-to-back games as they fell to 22-10-6.

Oilers 5-1 Flames

Edmonton's star Leon Draisaitl (20) scored a hat trick on December 23rd, with all three of the goals coming on the power play.

Teammate Connor McDavid not only assisted on all three of Draisaitl's goals, but he also assisted on the other two scored by Zach Hyman (10) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (11) as he now leads the league with 44 assists.

MacKenzie Weegar (3) scored the lone goal for Calgary as they were outshot 39-20.

Edmonton improved to 19-13-6 on the season, while Calgary fell to 15-18-4.

Avalanche 1-0 Mammoth

Samuel Girard's (2) unassisted goal was all it took for the Avalanche to put away the Mammoth for the night.

Colorado goalie Scott Wedgewood recorded his second shutout of the season, and 10th of his career, putting up 32 saves - just the fourth time this season in 23 games he's reached that mark.

Utah failed to capitalise on three separate power plays as they fell to 18-18-3.

The Avs continue to roll as the best team in the NHL after improving to 27-2-7, extending their win streak to seven games.

Flyers 3-1 Blackhawks

Travis Konecny (11), Noah Cates (9), and Carl Grundstrom (5) all scored as the Flyers won back-to-back games following their victory over the Blackhawks.

They improved to 19-10-7, retaking the second-place spot in the Metro from the Islanders - who took the spot earlier in the night.

Ryan Donato (9) scored the lone goal for Chicago, who fell to 13-17-6, extending their losing streak to six games.

Golden Knights 7-2 Sharks

Instead of in the third period like the other games, the Golden Knights exploded in the first frame with five straight goals from five different players.

Mitch Marner currently leads the way with two goals, while Ivan Barbashev, Braeden Bowman, and Pavel Dorofeyev all have two assist each as the final frame winds down.

Golden Knights improved to 17-8-10, while Sharks slipped to 17-17-3.

Kraken 3-2 Kings

Jordan Eberle (13), Frederick Gaudreau (3), and Ben Meyers (2) put the Kraken up to a commanding 3-0 lead in the second period before Kevin Fiala (13) responded for the Kings as the third period started.

Kraken improved to 15-14-6, while Los Angeles fell to 15-12-9.
