New Jersey Devils star player Jack Hughes (24) will miss the following eight weeks of the season after undergoing surgery on a finger that he cut during a team dinner on Thursday.

Hughes apparently has his finger cut by a piece of glass at the restaurant in what the team is calling a "freak accident."

The star centre for the Devils returned to New Jersey for further evaluation as the team continued their journey to Washington D.C., where they'll be prepping for their upcoming game against the Capitals

Hughes has put up a fantastic 10 goals and 10 assists through 17 games this season. The Devils currently sit atop of the Eastern Conference with a 12-4-1 record (25 points).

The American was looked at as a definite for the upcoming USA Olympic roster. His recovery time should put him back on the ice a couple of weeks into January, which should give him time to prepare for the Olympics, which begin on February 11th for the USA Men's Hockey Team.
