The San Francisco Giants signed second baseman Luis Arraez to a one-year, $12 million deal, according to multiple Major League Baseball insiders.

Arraez led the National League in hits (181) this past season with the San Diego Padres and is widely regarded as one of the best contact hitters since entering the league.

San Fran's infield will now be comprised of Matt Chapman (3B), Willy Adames (SS), Arraez (2B), and Rafael Devers (1B).

The 28-year-old Arraez slashed .292/.327/.392 with eight home runs, 61 RBI, and 11 stolen bases through 154 games.

Since making his MLB debut in 2019 with the Minnesota Twins, Arraez has only finished a full season with a batting average below .314 twice - 2021 (.294) and 2025 (.292).

In his three-year run between 2022 and 2024, Arraez led the American League (2022) in batting average, then the National League (2023-2024), earning him three-straight All-Star appearances. His .354 batting average in 2023 was the best in all of baseball and the third highest by any player since 2010 - the previous being DJ LaMahieu (.364) in 2020 and Josh Hamilton (.359) in 2010.

After spending the first four years of his career (2019-2022) with the Minnesota Twins, Arraez went to the Miami Marlins for one-and-a-half years before the team traded him to the San Diego Padres during the 2024 season, where he remained until becoming a free agent this offseason.

The Giants missed out on the playoffs last year after finishing third in the NL West division with an 81-81 record. Arraez will look to be a big help to a team that ranked 25th in batting average (.235) last season.
