18-year-old Lilli Tagger has clinched her maiden crown on the WTA Tour after a 7-6(3), 6-2 triumph over Daria Snigur at the Livesport Prague Open, becoming the first player born in 2008 to win a title.

Tagger will move to a career-high ranking of 45th in the world tomorrow after overcoming an opening-set scare to triumph in one hour and 30 minutes. She will be the youngest player inside the top 50.

The aggressive Austrian possesses a glorious single-handed backhand - one of just four in the top 100 - and hit nine aces as she denied Snigur her first WTA triumph.

Tagger trailed 2-5 in the first set, but managed to find her feet to retrieve the break before winning the opener on a tiebreak. From then on, it was far more straightforward for Tagger, cruising to the finishing line to get her hands on the trophy in the Czech capital.
