Jonathan David failed to convert a club-level penalty for the first time since January 2025, as Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Lecce at the Allianz Stadium, bringing an end to their four-match competitive winning streak too.

Considering that they had gone unbeaten in 16 previous competitive matches at this venue - stretching back to March 2025 - it was no surprise to see Juventus dominate early on.

However, Wladimiro Falcone was determined to see his side through the early onslaught, and once again proved a key player for Lecce, making a pair of saves from Andrea Cambiaso while doing well to turn Jonathan David’s header onto the post.

Kenan Yildiz continued to be the hosts’ most influential player, though they squandered a myriad of chances as the half went on. But just as it looked as though Luciano Spalletti’s men would have to wait until after the break to notch the opener, they were left shocked as Lecce were instead the ones to get it.

Cambiaso’s ball sold his teammate short, allowing Lameck Banda to collect, touch it past Bremer and send his shot nestling inside the near post.

However, Juventus wasted very little of the second half getting back level, as Yildiz found Weston McKennie just outside the six-yard box barely four minutes in, leaving him with a simple finish past Falcone.

The pressure continued as expected, and the home side were offered a slice of fortune when David’s volley came off Mohamed Kaba’s hand, but the Canadian international’s resulting penalty was weak and saved down the middle by Falcone’s trailing leg.

Lecce defended with their lives after that, and kept their opponents at bay despite late efforts from Filip Kostic and David, the latter of which was stopped brilliantly by Falcone.

It’s the first time Juventus have failed to win at this venue since early November - something Spalletti will attribute to their wastefulness, particularly from the spot.

As for Lecce, they’ll take some encouragement from their first away point against sides who started the round in Serie A’s top 12, and provisionally sit five points clear of the drop zone.
