New York Islanders defenceman Matthew Schaefer scored two goals in the team's nail-biting win during Sunday's six-game slate as he needs just four more to make NHL history!

Islanders 5-4 Panthers

The 18-year-old Schaefer had already broken the record for most goals by a rookie defenceman under the age of 20. Now, after scoring two goals in the win of the Panthers, he now needs just four more to surpass Brian Leetch (1988-1989) for the most ever by a rookie defenceman of any age.

Schaefer now has 20 goals and 24 assists through 61 games this season. Teammate Anders Lee sent home the game-winner, his 14th goal of the season, with just 32 seconds left in the final period as the Islanders have now won eight of their last 10 games, improving to 35-21-5.

Meanwhile, Florida fell to 30-27-3.

Penguins 5-0 Golden Knights

Despite both teams putting up 22 shots on net, the Penguins came away with the shutout win.

Ben Kindel, also 18 like Schaefer, got things started with his 15th goal of the season in the first period. Then, the Penguins would score three straight in the second period with an even-strength goal from Egor Chinakhov (13) and a pair of power-play goals from Bryan Rust (20) and Rickard Rakell (11), both of whom were assisted by Erik Karlsson (34).

With five minutes to go in the game, Justin Brazeau (16) added the final tally as the Penguins improved to 31-15-13. Goalie Arturs Silovs recorded his second career shutout.

Vegas fell to 28-18-14 and will wait to hear a diagnosis on star Mark Stone after he left the game with an injury.

Blackhawks 4-0 Mammoth

It took five years, but goalie Arvid Soderblom finally recorded his first career shutout after making 22 saves against the Mammoth to help his Blackhawks improve to 23-28-9.

Teuvo Teravainen (12) scored two of Chicago's goals, with the first coming on a power play in the first period to go up 1-0, and the second on a short-handed to goal for the game's final score. It's his first multi-goal game of the season and his first since January 10, 2025.

Nick Foligno (3) and Landon Slaggert (3) scored the others, forcing the Mammoth to fall to 31-25-4.

Sharks 2-1 Jets

After outshooting the Jets 33-28, the Sharks completed the comeback after Morgan Barron (8) put Winnipeg up 1-0 in the first period.

Will Smith (18) scored just two minutes into the third period to tie it 1-1 for San Jose before 19-year-old rookie Michael Misa scored his fourth goal of the season to win it in overtime.

San Jose improved to 29-25-4, while the Jets fell to 23-26-10.

Ducks 3-2 Flames

Cutter Gauthier (28) scored both of the Ducks' goals in regulation to keep them hanging on until Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson found the net during the shootout.

McTavish is now 5-for-5 in shootout opportunities this season.

Joel Farabee (13) and Yegor Sharangovich (12) scored the two goals for Calgary.

Anaheim improved to 33-23-3, while the Flames dropped to 24-28-7.

Blues 3-1 Wild

Kirill Kaprizov (34) scored his second goal in three games since the league returned from Olympic play, with teammate Matthew Boldy also picking up his 34th assist on the year.

St. Louis' Logan Mailloux scored his second goal of the season to tie it up 1-1 just two minutes before the game entered the final frame.

Minnesota would fail to get anything going as Pavel Buchnevich (14) and Robert Thomas (12) scored the final two goals for the Blues, who improved to 22-29-9.

The Wild dropped to 36-16-10.
