The Edmonton Oilers trade goalie Stuart Skinner, defenceman Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for goalie Tristan Jarry and forward Samuel Poulin.

Skinner had been with the Oilers for all five years of his career since the team drafted him in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft. He leaves behind a career 109-62 record with a 2.74 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.

In 23 starts for the Oilers this year, the 27-year-old Skinner has an 11-8 record with a career-worst in both GAA (2.83) and save percentage (.891).

Jarry is in a similar boat. Since the Penguins drafted him in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, he's been with the Penguins for all nine years of his career until this deal.

The 30-year-old heads to Edmonton with the exact same GAA as Skinner and a slightly better save percentage at .909. Jarry leaves Pittsburgh with a 161-100 record and 22 career shutouts.

This season alone, Jarry has posted a 9-3 record with a 2.66 GAA - his best since the 2021 season - and a .909 save percentage.

As for the other trade pieces, Pittsburgh's new defenceman in Kulak, will now be joining the first American team of his 13-year career. He spent his first four years with the Calgary Flames, then four more with the Montreal Canadiens, and eventually five years with the Oilers.

Kulak has two assists and no goals through 31 games with Edmonton this season. He put up career-highs last season with seven goals and 18 assists, thanks to a career-high average ice time of 20:32.

As for Poulin, he currently has nine goals and 11 assists through 22 games with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins after appearing in just two games for Pittsburgh this season.

In 2024, the former 21st overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft put up 19 goals and 24 assists through 57 games in the AHL. Since making his official NHL debut during the 2021-2022 season, Poulin has only been in a Penguins jersey for 15 career games.
