Another week of NHL action is behind us, and once again we witnessed plenty of interesting stories. Who racked up the most points this time, which goalie stood out, what was trending on social media, and which Czech player had the best week? You’ll find all this in our regular Monday feature, Week in the NHL.

Top Scorer of the Week

Two players reached the 10-point mark, but Russian forward Nikita Kucherov needed one game less than Nathan MacKinnon to notch three goals and seven assists, making him the winner. The Tampa Bay star especially enjoyed Saturday’s game against San Jose, where he tallied a goal and four assists in just 15 minutes and 37 seconds. With a plus-six rating, he was also the week’s second-best forward.

If you want to keep track of Kucherov’s performances, add him to your Favourite Players in our app.

Goaltender of the Week

Pittsburgh have found some good form, celebrating their fifth straight win. Two of those victories were backstopped by Stuart Skinner, the goalie recently traded from Edmonton. He helped secure a 5-1 win over Carolina and a 4-1 victory against Detroit, stopping 38 shots in total and posting a 95% save percentage.

Highlight of the Week

Seriously, who can stop them? Colorado Avalanche had just two regulation losses in their first 40 games, just before the halfway point of the regular season. No team in league history has ever done that before.

The Denver team, considered a favourite since the start of the season, has no real weaknesses. Coach Jared Bednar is in his 10th year at the helm and has already led them to a Stanley Cup. He knows the winning formula. In goal, they have a well-balanced tandem of Scott Wedgewood and Mackenzie Blackwood.

The defence is anchored by Canadian Olympians Cale Makar and Devon Toews, and besides stars like Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas, every forward line is packed with energy, experience, and a hunger to win.

"The start of the game made it clear why they’ve only lost twice so far," said goalie Jordan Binnington to NHL.com after his St Louis team conceded four goals to Colorado in the first five minutes and went on to lose 6-1.

But in the early hours of Monday, something rare happened - the Avalanche lost to Florida 2-1, suffering their first defeat of 2026.

Stat of the Week

He’s only 28, but he’s already become the all-time leading goal scorer for the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of the league’s most storied and valuable franchises. Auston Matthews first tied Mats Sundin’s record by scoring against David Rittich in Saturday’s game against the NY Islanders, then broke it with another goal against the Czech goalie, reaching 421 career goals to become the sole record holder.

"It means a lot to me. Toronto is an amazing team, and to be mentioned alongside some of the stars who have played here is truly special. But I couldn’t have done it without all the guys around me," the forward told NHL.com.

Still, he must have been disappointed with the result, as the Leafs lost 4-3 in overtime.

From Social Media

World-famous actor and comedian Will Ferrell is a big fan of the Los Angeles Kings and is often seen sitting by the glass at Crypto.com Arena. But for the game against Tampa Bay, he took a different approach, dressing up as a referee and doing a spot-on impression of the men in stripes. During an interview, he even added a bit of his trademark humour.

"You never know if one of these guys might get hurt. Maybe I’ll have to lace up and get out on the ice," he joked.

Photo of the Week

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane won the Stanley Cup together three times with Chicago and were part of the most successful decade in the team’s history. But for the first time, the two faced off as opponents. Kane had the upper hand, as his Detroit team beat Winnipeg 2-1.
