Washington Capitals 7-4 Anaheim Ducks
The Washington Capitals claimed their 20th regular-time win of the season in impressive fashion, dominating the visiting Anaheim Ducks in a 7-4 victory.
Justin Sourdif had quite the night, scoring a hat-trick and adding a couple of assists. Connor Carmichael played provider for much of the night, adding four helpers, while Alex Ovechkin found the back of the net twice.
The Ducks had four different scorers in what was their 21st loss of the season, 18th in normal time. No team currently holding a playoff spot has as many defeats. Anaheim's losing skid has now hit six games.
New York Rangers 2-3 Utah Mammoth (OT)
Despite taking the lead twice at Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers failed to hold onto their lead twice against the Utah Mammoth. That proved costly for the hosts, who fell 3-2 in overtime.
Sean Durzi scored the winner a minute and change into the extra period on a night where six Mammoth players played a part on the goals. They move up to 10th place in the West as they near a postseason berth.
Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin assisted on both of the Rangers' goals, with Alexis Lafreniere and Vincent Trocheck putting them in front during the second period. Still, it proved not to be enough, with the loss being their fourth in their last five.
Ottawa Senators 3-5 Detroit Red Wings
A three-goal first period from the Detroit Red Wings helped them to a 5-3 success over the Ottawa Senators and into top spot in the East.
Andrew Copp, Dylan Larkin, and James Van Riemsdyk were the scorers in the opening frame, with Lucas Raymond and Michael Rasmussen getting in on the scoring later on in the game for the Red Wings, who have won six of their last nine.
Claude Giroux, Dylan Cozens, and Brady Tkachuk got in on in the scoring for the Senators, who stay four points out of a playoff spot.
