Boston Bruins 10-2 New York Rangers
The most goals of the day came at TD Garden, where the Boston Bruins toppled their Original Six rivals New York Rangers 10-2.
Despite the score, it was the guests who went in front through Mika Zibanejad 84 seconds into the contest. However, it all went downhill from there for the Rangers, who were down 3-1 by the end of the period.
The Bruins did not stop their onslaught, scoring thrice more before they forced a goaltender change from New York. J.T. Miller grabbed one back to make it 6-2, but Boston kept things going by adding a seventh before the frame concluded.
Three more goals were scored in the final 20 minutes to complete the rout for the Bruins, who saw Marat Khusnutdinov and Pavel Zacha both score hat-tricks. David Pastrnak, meanwhile, managed six assists.
It is the first time since 1988 that the Bruins, now two points out of a playoff berth in the East, managed to hit double digits in goals. The Rangers have lost their last three as their postseason hopes take a hit.
Buffalo Sabres 5-3 Anaheim Ducks
The Buffalo Sabres' incredible run continued on Saturday, as the New York-based team ran came away with a 5-3 success at the expense of the Anaheim Ducks in a back-and-forth third period.
Jack Quinn scored the first of his two markers two minutes in to put the Sabres in front early. They could have gone two goals to the good moments later, but Zach Benson failed to convert a penalty.
Tage Thomspon did double their lead in the second, giving Buffalo's fans much to cheer about. While they did go into the second intermission up 2-0, the third period became quite complicated.
After Bowen Byran notched a third, the Ducks came alive. Olen Zellweger got them on the boardwith 4:44 left. Unfortunately for Anaheim, Quinn got his second shortly thereafter to restore the Sabres' three-goal lead.
That set the game up for a grandstand finish. Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish got their team to within one with 48 seconds remaining in regulation. Having pulled their goaltender, the Ducks pushed to tie things up at the end. Yet, Buffalo managed to hold on, with Josh Norris scoring on an empty net 11 seconds before time.
The Sabres move up to sixth in the Eastern Conference, with their 13th win in their last 14 contests. As for the Ducks, who have now seen nine defeats on the spin, they are 11th in the West. With 168 goals conceded so far this year, they have let in the most in the league.
