Skanderborg AGF delivered a surprise on Saturday evening and booked a place in the Danish Championship finals in men's handball.
With a 33-26 win over GOG, it was the Jutland team who surprisingly secured their ticket to face Aalborg Håndbold, who defeated Mors-Thy in the other semi-final earlier on Saturday.
Skanderborg has shown over two matches that the team is currently better than GOG, even though the Funen team fought hard for the cause in front of their own spectators in Svendborg.
Skanderborg went into the interval with a 20-18 lead thanks to a last-gasp, curvy shot from Johan Hansen. GOG restored parity at 21-21, but Skanderborg then seized the initiative again with unanswered goals, and GOG never recovered.
As expected Skanderborg will face Aalborg Handball in the final after the Champions League Final Four contestants booked a place in the final with a 37-35 victory over Mors-Thy in the second semi-final.
In the first semi-final in midweek, the regular season winner completely dismantled Mors-Thy with a 40-21 victory.
Aalborg was not quite so dominant on Saturday, but in the second half, Aalborg's players came into their own and secured a place in the final.
However, Mors-Thy showed that it is quite deserved that the team qualified among the last four in this season's men's League.
