While Odense Handball were on the end of an embarrassing defeat against CSM Bucuresti, Team Esbjerg boosted their campaign in the Champions League with a comfortable win Sunday against Borussia Dortmund.

Odense who could have secured their access to the quarter-final with a win were handicapped by the lack of big profiles like Mie Hojlund, Louise Burgaard and Nikita van der Vliet heading into the encounter and that became fatal against the experienced Hungarian side, who led 15-9 at the break.

In the second half, the visitors with Emma Friis, Trine Ostergaard and Anne Mette Hansen in action extended the gap to win 33-24 against a Danish outfit who never settled into their usual stylsih stride. Despite the defeat, Odense maintained the second position in the group with five matches left.

Team Esbjerg were without their big Norwegian star Henny Reistad against Borussia Dortmund but it did not matter much as the Danes were never really challenged during the game which they won 31-24.

The two goalkeepers Katharina Filter and Anna Kristensen looked impressive in goal during Sunday's match, where they each had save percentages over 50 behind a strong defensive rearguard.

The victory means that Esbjerg hold on to their fourth place in the Champions League group stage, where the two best teams advance directly to the quarter-finals, while the teams placed from number three to six will enter the playoffs.
