After 11 straight defeats against reigning Champions League winners Gyor, Team Esbjerg finally got their revenge against the Hungarian outfit when the Danes recorded a 33-28 win at home on Saturday night.

It should be said that the match was of limited importance for the Hungarians, who are still in line to claim first place and are already certain to advance directly to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

However, that should not take anything away from Team Esbjerg, who played a terrific game. Norwegian international Nora Mork was in a class of her own with 13 goals in particular. Henny Reistad also stood out, scoring nine goals.

From the start, Team Esbjerg dominated and led 11-6 after the first quarter, after which the Hungarians took a timeout.

However, that did not stop the home team, who extended their lead to ten goals for the first time at 19-9. At halftime, the lead was 21-10.

In the second half, Gyor managed to reduce the deficit to 18-25, but Esbjerg basically put the game out of reach by making it 31-20.

In the final phase, Gyor added to the scoreline, but could not prevent the Danes from sealing the win.

In third place, Esbjerg has 19 points with one game remaining. To progress directly to the quarter-finals, the team must get past Metz, who has 20 points with two games remaining, and therefore, Esbjerg must, in all likelihood, prepare to go through playoffs to reach the quarter-finals.
