Sweden's national team ace Jim Gottfridsson will take legal action against Pick Szeged after the Hungarian outfit have terminated his contract under mysterious circumstances.

Pick Szeged recorded a big surprise win during the week when they defeated Polish side Kielce in the Champions League on Thursday and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

However, the Hungarian outfit, coached by Swedish national team captain Michael Apelgren, managed to do so without the services of Jim Gottfridsson, who had not been included in the squad for Szeged's last three matches.

10 days ago, before the first match against Kielce, Hungarian TV commentators claimed that Gottfriedsson's absence wasn't due to an injury and that he presumably wouldn't play any more this season.

The Hungarian club subsequently stated on their website that the contract with Gottfridsson had been terminated with the following words from club chairman Edward Papp: "We thank Jim Gottfridsson for his work and wish him the best of luck in his continued career".

Gottfridsson has been shocked by the Hungarians' decision.

"This happened without any justification or previous dialogue, in gross violation of both the written and unwritten rules of the sport I love," writes Gottfridsson on Instagram.

He believes that he fought wholeheartedly for Pick Szeged in every training session and match.

"This is where I wanted to end my professional career. In this fantastic city, I saw my family's immediate future, and I had intended to spend the last years with this club. My disappointment is indescribable. I could never have imagined that a club with such a great reputation would disregard both sporting ethical principles and legal rules - for reasons I do not know," writes Gottfridsson.

Gottfridsson will now take legal action against the Hungarians.

"I consider the club's actions to be illegal, and together with my legal team, I will work to ensure that something similar cannot happen to any handball player in Hungary in the future," writes Gottfridsson.

Gofridsson began playing for Pick Szeged last summer and had signed a three-year contract with the club. Before that, he played for twelve years in Flensburg Handewitt.

On 22 April, Apelgren selects the Swedish national team squad for the last international matches of the season. It remains to be seen if Gottfridsson will be included.
