Aalborg Handball are very close to booking a ticket for the quarter-final of the Champions League after they cruised to a 12-goal win (36-24) against Norwegian outfit Kolstad on Wednesday evening.

The North Jutland team has 19 points, which is seven points more than Veszprém in third place in their respective group in the tournament.

The Hungarians have four games left, but must win all their remaining games, while Aalborg can't record any more points in the remaining group games.

At home in a tightly packed Gigantium, Aalborg otherwise opened the match by being well below their usual standard.

Lots of great opportunities were wasted, while the defense often looked unfocused. This meant that Kolstad hung on quite well in the first half.

The first half was sluggish, but a well-playing Thomas Arnoldsen took matters into his own hands. Arnoldsen hammered his fourth goal into the net in the last second before the break to give Aalborg a 17-14 lead.

Mads Hoxer came into character after the break, and this contributed to Aalborg pulling away from the Norwegian visitors.

Hoxer scored four goals in the first 15 minutes after the halftime break, as the Danes rapidly extended their lead.
