League leaders SC Magdeburg continue to set the standard in the Handball-Bundesliga. The team coached by Bennet Wiegert cruised to a 34-23 (15-11) victory at MT Melsungen, keeping their closest rivals at bay. After 23 matches, Magdeburg holds a five-point lead over second-placed SG Flensburg-Handewitt, putting them in a strong position to claim their fourth championship after titles in 2001, 2022, and 2024.

In the other match, VfL Gummersbach celebrated an important win in the race for European competition. Playing away at fourth-placed THW Kiel, Gummersbach pulled away in the second half to secure a convincing 34-26 (14:15) victory, keeping themselves in contention for a European League spot.

It is the first time since 2006 that Gummersbach has won in Kiel in a Bundesliga context. At the same time, it is only the second victory for Gummersbach in Kiel this century.

Magnus Landin scored two goals in the defeat, with Croatian Gummersbach keeper Dominik Kuzmanović making 20 saves in the match.

After a balanced start, Magdeburg pulled ahead midway through the first half and extended its lead significantly after the break. The top scorer of the match was backcourt player Felix Claar, who netted eleven goals for the Swedish side. On Thursday, Magdeburg will host FC Barcelona in the Champions League.
