SC Magdeburg on Sunday continued their winning streak with great difficulty, even against its fearsome opponents, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. The runners-up from last season won 24-22 (8:8) to secure their ninth successive win in the German Bundesliga. Surprisingly, the defending champions, Fuchse Berlin, conceded their third defeat of the season in a 38-39 (18-18) loss to HSV Hamburg. And after ten rounds, the team led by world handball player Mathias Gidsel has as many defeats to its name as in the entire previous season.

In a first half, characterised by two strong defences in Hannover, neither team managed to take a two-goal lead. That changed after the break, when the visitors, coached by Bennet Wiegert, pulled away to take a 20-15 lead. However, the home side managed to reduce the deficit to just one goal, but the visitors held their nerve to secure the win.

Trauma overcome

Felix Claar, Daniel Pettersson, and Magnus Saugstrup were the most prolific scorers for Magdeburg, who had suffered one of only five defeats in Hanover last season, with four goals each. Even eight goals from the Norwegian August Pedersen were not enough for Hannover.

Magdeburg took first place for the time being thanks to the win, but can be overtaken again by SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the evening. The SCM had lost each of its last three matches in Hannover.

Foxes lose the connection.

Berlin struggled from the opening phase in the Max-Schmeling-Halle at home, and even a 24-21 lead after the break did not help to calm their nerves. Instead, the visitors, who had already ended Gummersbach's winning streak one matchday earlier, turned the match around. The score was 37-37 with two minutes remaining, after which Hamburg scored two goals in quick succession to secure a very surprising win.
