The court ruled that Allan Lund Nielsen held assets worth €2,5 million in his company on which he should have paid tax in Denmark; consequently, he must now pay €740.000 in compensation to the Danish Tax Agency.
According to his lawyer, Allan Lund Nielsen intends to appeal the ruling; throughout the proceedings, he has disputed the tax authorities' position, dismissing their claims as "alleged and fictitious," reports dr.dk
Allan Lund Nielsen maintains that the Danish Tax Agency has failed to substantiate that the €2,5 million represented actual assets.
Allan Lund Nielsen played for the Danish national football team from 1995 to 2002 and was named Danish Footballer of the Year in 1996.
Nielsen played for English clubs including Tottenham and Watford and was best remembered for scoring the decisive goal for Tottenham when they won the Worthington Cup (today known as the Carabao Cup) against Leicester in 1999.
On Tuesday, the former footballer announced that he is moving back to Dubai with his wife, Tina Lund, and the couple's children.
