Jonny Clayton has claimed his first European Tour title of the year. The world No. 6 defeated Luke Humphries 8-4 in the Swiss Darts Trophy final.

For Clayton, it was his fourth career European Tour title, after winning the Austrian Darts Open twice (2018 and 2023) and, most recently, the Dutch Darts Championship in 2025.

Earlier this year, Clayton was beaten by Luke Humphries in the Belgian Darts Open final in March. It is only the Welshman's second title of the year, after he won the New Zealand Masters in August.

The match went a long time without a break, but still produced plenty of highlights. Clayton checked out 118 in the opening leg after Humphries had missed the bullseye with 164 remaining. In the fifth leg, Cool Hand Luke attempted a nine-darter and was left on 141 after six darts, but couldn't finish. He did not get another throw at the oche, as Clayton finished the leg on 46.

The overdue break finally came in the 10th leg. After Humphries again missed the bullseye with 164 remaining, the Ferret checked out 26 to make it 6-4. Two legs later, there was another break for the 8-4 final score.

Suljovic drama and Van Veen thrillers

The tournament in Basel was highlighted by a contested moment in the round of 16, when Mensur Suljovic and Ross Smith exchanged a cold handshake after the Austrian riled up the crowd as Smith went for the checkout.

Smith commented on Suljovic's antics afterwards, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to say that "karma will come around" after Suljovic responded bemused to the criticism.

Suljovic would eventually be eliminated in the semifinals, where Humphries bested 'the Gentle' 7-4 after noting an 111.17 average and staying clinical on the checkouts with an 88% finish percentage (7/8).

World Championship finalist Gian van Veen was the other semifinalist, having overcome consecutive breaks from Tom Bissell in the round of 16 before erasing a 3-0 deficit in the quarterfinal against Bradley Brooks. The Dutchman eventually fell to later champion Clayton, who overpowered Van Veen with a 105 average.
