Denmark's women's curling curling team suffered a big blow to their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Winter Olympics when they chose to throw in the towel when they were trailing 7-2 after the eight end against Great Britain.

The Danish women's curling team were punished for their mistakes when they lost 2-7 to Great Britain at the Winter Olympics.

Denmark has now won three matches and lost three matches, and still has a chance to reach the semi-finals and play for the medals.

Denmark was a step or two behind the Brits for almost the entire match on Monday as Great Britain took the lead from the start and held on to the end.

Denmark got off to a bad start in the match and fell behind 0-2 after the first end.

The Danes subsequently reduced the lead to 1-2 after the second end, but the British enjoyed most of the momentum and made the fewest mistakes.

Great Britain increased the lead to 3-1 after the fourth end, and Denmark then managed to preserve the excitement in the match when they reduced the deficit to 2-3 after the fifth end.

It went completely wrong for Denmark in the sixth end, where the Brits put two stones in the house and increased the lead to 5-2.

Despite the advantage of having the last stone in the seventh end, Denmark failed to pick up a point. On the contrary, the Danish skipper Madeleine Dupont hit a Danish stone on the way into the house, so that the British increased the lead to 6-2.

Rebecca Morrison, who was the British skipper, played solidly and delivered several good stones.

This helped to secure a comfortable British victory with five extra stones after the eighth end as Denmark chose to give up before the last two ends.

Great Britain had only won a single match at the Winter Olympics before the clash with Denmark. But this could not be seen in Monday's match, where the Danes were a level or two below the Brits.
